Web banner production is an integral component of providing structure, content and revenue for the World Wide Web. It has been noted with the students that what they have done and will be doing parallels these production aspects that are a part of the work force within the Internet world. It has even been suggested that they could make money [substantial pocket change] legally through their parents by creating web banners for neighborhood companies’ and organizations’ websites.
It was noted with the students that when the advertiser scans its log files and detects that a web user has visited the advertiser's site from the content site [where the web banner is located] by clicking on the banner ad, the advertiser sends the content provider some small amount of money (usually around five to ten US cents). This payback system is often how the content provider is able to pay for the Internet access to supply the content in the first place.
Web banner production reflects student creative thinking and writing skills [copywriting] as they relate to making a web user interested enough in clicking on the advertisement. Again in keeping with the vocational aspects of this process, it was noted with the students that 100s to possibly 1000s of individuals in professional positions throughout the world were doing the same … creating web banners.
