Jump for Joy!

Try a trampoline.

I asked a parent to donate a mini-trampoline to the classroom and began using it to create excitement in my fifth-grade classroom.

Sometimes, I jump on it for fun, and when I land, I have the class yell "boom!"

Other times, I reward students who get a correct answer by letting them come up and get in some jumps.  It is amazing how hard they will work to jump a few times on a trampoline!

Without exception, visitors always comment on the trampoline when they see it.  Why do you have a trampoline?, they ask.

Why not?

Steve, I wanted to let you

Steve, I wanted to let you know that I tweeted the link to this post via our @education_world Twitter account and someone wrote back today saying they tried this in their classroom today and the kids loved it. Thanks for sharing such an awesome idea. Here's the tweet: http://twitter.com/#!/AquaGirl72/statuses/127501772234293248

What an awesome idea! I bet

What an awesome idea! I bet the kids really enjoy that. It's such a simple thing ... but so unusual and different that it's sure to excite your students. Love it! Thanks so much for posting this, Steve!

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. This week, I also tried using a long jump rope during math. The class recites the five-steps of division or some other fact, as a student tries to keep jumping without tripping up.
