A Ticket To Ride Template
Description: This multi-purpose
template was built
from a Microsoft
Word template (there
are all kinds
included in your
software - choose
"new" then select
from options
included double
sided bookmarks).
This simple tool has
uses in grades K-12
and in virtually any
subject where you
are teaching
students.
Here are a few
ideas:
Ride on the Reading
Train (K-2) - have
students use this
template to create a
simple book review
(rear) and
recommendation
(front). Post them
with clips on a
railroad track made
of balsa wood or
twine and let
students retrieve,
read over and create
"I want to read
next" list, based on
friend's
suggestions. The
tickets are
convenient to carry
to the "author
chair" in writer's
workshop to share
during
presentation.
A Ticket to Ride
(middle school) -
can be used in
vocabulary
instruction (synonym
searches), word
choice activities
(writing), or even a
twist on
"diagramming
sentences" where
various parts of
speech are
singularly written
on tickets and
students either
remove the requested
part of speech
(verb, adjective,
etc.) from a
sentence strip made
of tickets OR
combine their
tickets to create
complete sentences
with sentence
variety or create
complex sentences,
evaluate independent
and dependent
clauses, etc. The
sky's the limit -
all with one simple
tool.
Make a PDF of
tickets so that
students can use
Powerpoint or Word
to do these
activities
virtually.
