Here are EducationWorld, we were pretty excited to hear that Apple is releasing a less than $1,000 iMac intended for educational institutions. It won't be available in stores or to individuals though.

While still pricey, these machines are largely used in many industries and could give kids some early exposure to using them.

What do you think? Would you like your school to buy the new iMacs?

iMacs for Education

I agree with your comment that the educational discount for iMacs is still pricey.  I think it's a shame that Apple can;t come up with a more attractive price point... especially considering their present financial situation which indicates being awash in extra cash.  In my opinion, you could obtain comparable performance and software selection for less than half the cost by buying a PC notebook or netbook.  I particularly like the Asus brand.  I am using one now near St. Petersburg Russia.  It has been very reliable for over a year.

RE: iMac in the class room

I agree with you about the iMac price and many schools use them and pay the price because in many cases they did not look at other solutions and are caught up in the current Apple frenzey. I have worked with many schools who have not only got caught up in the begging cost of getting iMacs but the on going cost of finding Apple programs. Some schools find out to late that for under $400.00 per student they could have a windows based PC or tablet that can use off the shelf products that will include wifi networks that are thousands less then getting iMacs and easier to upgrade. In many cases a school could create a computer network with PC that will last for more than five years with expense upgrading. One such system is the Classmate system from Equus Computers and Intel. you can view a video of this solution on our website at www.wireheadtec.com at our Educaction page.

My son has currently been

My son has currently been diagnosed with Autism and my school superintendants office sent me an email to my request for an IPad.  They said that they will provide an IPad for school use.  Does that mean that they will have to adjust his homework assignments or should I purchase one for him at home.  Any suggestions?
