There are people we admire because they are kind or generous or good. There are people we look up to because they make a lot of touchdowns or seamlessly become all sorts of different characters in movies.
But once in a while, there is a person who is admired for something much greater: their ability to change the world.
Steve Jobs changed the world.
We here at Education World are deeply saddened at Jobs' death on October 5. Share your thoughts on Jobs, his death or whatever you want about how Jobs' work changed your life.

A Remarkable Life
My first thought when I heard that Steve Jobs had died (via Jason's Facebook post no less) was to wonder what he could have accomplished had he lived a much longer life. He was a remarkable man. In a mere 56 years, Jobs changed the world three times over. That's extraordinary.
I completely agree!

Pixar
I do, however, blame him for creating Pixar which gave us Wall-E and Up -- the two movies with highest inverse level of entertainment to praise ever made. I'll give him a pass though because he also invented the Newton which is on the cover of our book.
What?
I loved Wall-E. Great movie -- Wall-E was such a likeable guy. Also, Toy Story was amazing. Pixar ... another Steve Jobs accomplishment.
Sad day
The first computer I ever saw was an Apple II which we used in elemntary school to learn LOGO. From pushing that turtle around to carting off a souped up old-school Mac to college (it had a 20MB external hard drive) I've been a mac person ever since. Now, I'm typing this on a Powerbook, but I could just as easily do it on my iPhone or my iPad. It's hard to think of another person who has indirectly impacted my life so much and I'm sad in a way that "celebrity" deaths rarely make me feel. The closest I can remember was Jim Henson.
A Titan
There is no question humanity has suffered a great loss with the passing of Steve Jobs. He was a true visionary genius, who changed the world for the better. He can take his place alongside the other titans of innovation like Franklin and Tesla. His death leaves a giant chasm in the world of innovation that won't easily be filled.
Apple goes on...
I thinl part of his legacy is that in this go around at Apple he built somthing sustainable. No one person will have his vision, but there are a lot of good people he worked with that will together keep things moving forward. Jobs made the world better during his life and he has set things up to have them stay better moving forward. (Rumor has it, the iPhone 6 will be able to mow your lawn).
No one can match Jobs'
No one can match Jobs' innovation. But yes, Apple will go on.
