It's no secret that gas prices are rising fast -- a trip to the gas station is getting more and more costly by the day. This has big implications for families across the country. How is your community handling the rising prices? Bring this important current even into the classroom so students can discuss what's happening.
Here are some ideas for tackling this in class:
Read/view this piece on the ABC News website, where prices at a gas station rose 10 cents during a two-minute news report.
Assignment: Collect price data for local gas stations for 1 week. How do prices change? Have students graph the prices and examine the changes.
Have you discussed this in class? What do students think about the rising fuel costs?

Great Idea
I am not currently in the classroom, but I used to do something similar but with not only with gas. It also applied to other consumer goods.
