Barack Obama had much to say while accepting his party's nomination for the 2012 presidency at the Democratic National Convention last night in North Carolina, but one of the most attention-grabbing portions of his speech was his early call to the American people to improve education.

According to the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress, less than one-third of elementary and high school students truly grasp what they're being taught in science.
